1 cup of butter
1 cup of icing sugar (powdered sugar)
1 egg
1 teaspoon of almond extract
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt
2 ¾ cup of flour
1 tube of red
decorator gel
blanched white almonds
Mix the butter,
icing sugar, egg and extracts (I don't use the almond
because my kids don't like it, so I double up the vanilla).
Add the dry ingredients and mix together. Refridgerate
if you have time, I don't usually have time, but I'll
stick the batter in the fridge while a batch is cooking.
Take about
a teaspoon size of dough, roll into a finger shape, making
a knuckle shape, use a paring knife to make the lines
on the knuckle. Use an almond to press into the end of
the cookie to make the depression for the fingernail,
but don't bake with the almond on. Bake at 350 for about
20 minutes, or until done (check to see if bottom is brown).
While they are still hot, add a squirt of the gel to the
depression made before baking, stick on the almond and
when the gel cools it will act like glue and hold the
almond (fingernail) in place! Don't forget to add decorative
spiders and flies for that special look.
